The HOOSIER CONTRACTOR
SPRING 2013
GET INVOLVED,
GET ENGAGED,
GET RESULTS!
First, I want to say
thank you
to
the ABC Indiana membership
for bestowing upon me the great
privilege of being your State
Chairman in 2013. This is a great
honor, and I promise I will put
forth 100% effort to achieve the goals that we have all set
for this year.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate
and thank Chuck Goodrich—both for his leadership and the
incredible year that he had as Chairman in 2012. Right to Work
was such a milestone accomplishment for this organization
and business owners throughout the state of Indiana! I know
Chuck would agree with me in acknowledging JR and Martha
for their incredible efforts in seeing that
Indiana became the 23rd state to adopt
this critical legislation; they both showed
great resolve and bravery when faced with
the verbal abuse and jeering of union thugs
at the Statehouse. Great work team… and
what a huge
VICTORY
for all of us that
worked so hard to make Right to Work
become a reality for Indiana.
I would also like to mention and recognize
the ABC staff—especially John Edward
Gaylor and Rebecca Hoff. Due to their incredible efforts, ABC
Indiana recruited 63 new members in 2012, ranking Indiana
6th in the country in Chapter membership growth. What an
outstanding job—all those involved should be very proud of
their contributions.
Looking forward, I have already challenged the staff and
Chapter leadership that there is no reason we shouldn’t just
go for it in 2013 and strive to be the top Chapter for new
member recruitment. I have also challenged my thirty three-
person Board of Directors that they are personally responsible
for bringing at least ONE new member “on board” in 2013.
Finally, I would also ask each of my fellow ABC members to
make the extra effort this year to bring in one new member
to our ABC family. Let’s do this together and grow our
organization more than anyone would think possible!
If you haven’t already noticed, I am a pretty enthusiastic
individual… and it especially comes through whenever I talk
about FREE ENTERPRISE and FREEDOM, two of the greatest
principles this Association represents. If you attended the
Inaugural Dinner on January 29th, then you heard me repeat
my theme for this year:
GET INVOLVED, GET ENGAGED, GET RESULTS!
We have some incredible momentum and some great
opportunities to capitalize on in 2013. The ABC Indiana and
Kentucky merger is one of the utmost priorities for myself
and the Board of Directors. With that in mind, I encourage
all members to get involved, ask questions, and get engaged
when necessary to help us become one of the largest and
most powerful ABC Chapters in the country. We can and will
achieve great things when we surround
ourselves with like-minded individuals
through initiatives such as the Chapter
merger, new member recruitment and
engagement of our current membership.
Let’s work together this year to strengthen
and add to our number of total and engaged
ABC members.
Also, in July of 2011, ABC replaced the
Department of Labor’s position on the
common construction wage committees.
Since that time, we have been working diligently to educate
taxpayers and awarding agencies about the cost savings
potential on state and local projects. I personally have been
attending common wage hearings as ABC’s representative,
and I want to encourage more of our members to get involved.
We need additional volunteers to join the Common Wage Task
Force, get trained and help present the ABC information at
wage hearings around the state. The training process is not
difficult and will not take up a lot of your time—so please
contact Felisha Minnich at
if you
can help.
From the Chairman
Let’s work together this
year to
strengthen and add to our
number of
total and engaged ABC
members.
