have long been involved with ABC Indiana and its
membership – as volunteers, educators and sponsors
– with the goal of making DSV an asset, and partner, to ABC.
What we had not yet had the opportunity to do was serve
ABC in an official capacity as its attorneys. However, that
changed on January 1, 2013 as we are proud to announce
that DSV has been selected to serve as the ABC Designated
Chapter Attorneys.
A Brief History of Drewry Simmons Vornehm
DSV is an Indiana-based law firm, whose primary focus since
it was formed in 1996 (as a construction boutique firm) has
been providing legal services to all aspects of the construction
industry. Growth has been strategically planned and has
resulted in DSV now having 22 lawyers with three offices
located in Carmel, Indianapolis, and
Merrillville. While DSV has its foundation
in construction law, with the growth of
the firm DSV has expanded its practice
to include labor and employment law,
government services, business/corporate
services, real estate and title insurance,
civil litigation, and personal legal services
such as wills, estate planning and elder law.
DSV’s long association with ABC dates
back to the early 1980s when ABC’s long
time counsel, Doug Trolson, began practicing with current DSV
partners Mike Drewry, Dave Simmons, David Vornehm and Bob
Milford. DSV has continued to represent ABC members as firm
clients since that time. Through service on committees at the
state and national level, articles and education initiatives such
as the ABC-DSV Construction Law Series, DSV has worked
since 2007 to become an even more active contributor to the
ABC membership.
Your Chapter Attorneys
The DSV-ABC Team will be headed by Mike Drewry, Will
Kelley and Dan Drewry. Mike will be DSV’s primary contact
and representative of ABC in legal matters. Mike is the
managing partner at DSV, and also just completed his fourth
year serving on the ABC Board (he had to resign from the
Board upon becoming Chapter Counsel). Dan Drewry heads
up DSV’s labor and employment group as well as being a
partner in the construction group. Will Kelley is a partner
in DSV’s construction litigation and real estate groups, and
has achieved designation as a Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP
BD+C). Will serves as the Region 6 representative for the
ABC-National Green Building Committee.
ABC Member Benefits
In addition to the services DSV will provide ABC as an
organization, we are excited to roll out a series of benefits
and tools for the membership. First, later this month DSV
will be rolling out a labor and employment hotline, which
will be staffed by the DSV Labor & Employment Group
and is designed to provide timely access and assistance to
ABC members dealing with emergency situations. For all
other issues, DSV is offering a “first call free to the Chapter
Attorney” program, which will provide
members with no-cost access to Mike,
Dan or Will for initial consultations on an
as-needed basis.
Second, DSV will also be providing a
series of free educational presentations
that will focus on the emerging trends,
issues and innovations in the construction
industry. DSV attorneys also utilize social
media, including Twitter (@DSVlaw),
LinkedIn and the DSV Construction Law
Blog. Together with periodic email alerts, DSV will strive to
keep the membership up to date on new developments that
impact the industry.
A Beneficial Partnership
As a construction-focused firm, we strive to stay involved
with, and more importantly, give back to the industry that
supports our practice. Taking on this new role as ABC Chapter
Counsel affords us an exciting opportunity to do just that. Our
ultimate goal is to become a valued advisor and asset to ABC
(and its members). We look forward to this new partnership
and to serving the membership.
