The HOOSIER CONTRACTOR
SPRING 2013
A
ssociated Builders and Contractors of Indiana hosted
the 2013 State Board Inaugural Dinner at the state
headquarters on January 29, 2013.
As part of the dinner and ceremony, the members were
privileged to hear from Chris Atkins, the State Budget Director
under Mike Pence. Mr. Atkins shared the recommended
budget for fiscal years 2014-2015 that was released on
January 15. He shared that the recommended budget was
developed with five goals in mind. The new budget must:
1)
Be an honestly balanced budget;
2)
Fund our priorities-priorities such as jobs creation,
education, and adult workforce development;
3)
Must hold the line on spending;
4)
Find a significant way to increase economic development;
(This would be done by giving Hoosier taxpayers a tax
cut of 10% over the next two years); and
5)
Maintain adequate reserves.
“On January 15, 2013, Associated Builders and Contractors
of Indiana announced their unqualified support of Governor
Pence’s recommended budget,” says J.R. Gaylor, president
of ABC. “It was a wonderful opportunity for our members to
hear first hand about the budget from Mr. Atkins and to also
be given the opportunity to ask questions.”
The evening also included a thank you to our 2012 State
Board Chairman Chuck Goodrich of Gaylor, Inc., the
presentation of the James J. Leonard Award to recipient
Kenneth Hedlund of Somerset CPAs, the swearing in of
our 2013 State Board, and a brief address from our 2013
State Board Chairman Ryan Ellis of PLS of Indiana LLC.
During his address, Ryan Ellis, challenged members to “get
involved, get engaged, and get results.”
Associated Builders and Contractors of Indiana would like
to thank our 2013 State Board for the use of their time and
talent to further the merit shop philosophy.
