Spring 2014
from the executive director
“O
n February 10 – 12, 2014, 11 system representatives
from North Carolina joined water and wastewater
professionals from across the nation inWashington,
DC to carry our collective voice to the US
Congress. Topping our national legislative agenda,
issues addressed included continued infrastructure
funding through the USDAand EPASRF programs,
leaded brass inventory relief, and the upcoming
Lead and Copper Rule Re-write. These efforts on
Capitol Hill have produced significant results in
the past and should continue to benefit our member
systems in North Carolina.
NCRWA appreciates the following professionals
and their systems for their time and effort in
supporting our industry in DC:
Neil Carpenter, Maggie Valley Sanitary District
Sam Call, Town of Wilkesboro
Maria Hunnicutt, Broad River Water Authority
Todd Taylor, Orange Water and Sewer Authority
Kenny Keel, Town of Hillsborough
Danny Sloan, Iredell Water Corporation
Wilmer Melton, City of Kannapolis
John Gregory, Pasquotank County Water
Lisa Smith-Perri, West Carteret Water Corporation
Ron Sink, Davidson Water Corporation
Joey Threewitts, Wayne Water Districts
While our work on Capitol Hill was shortened by
the severe snow storm that struck the southeast, the
groupwas still successful in carrying our message to
key members of the NC Congressional Delegation.
Since these meetings, many of the offices visited,
including the soon retiring Congressman Howard
Coble, have signed on in support of our Rural
Water’s initiatives. Congressman David Price also
continues to be open to our initiatives as well, which
is critical to our efforts due to his appointment to
the House Appropriations Committee.
Progressing forward, NCRWA will be back in DC
several times before the Easter Recess of Congress
to push the initiatives that are most beneficial to our
members. If we can ever assist you with a system
tour with or a meeting at the district office of your
elected leaders, contact NCRWA at any time.
Thanks again for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Daniel Wilson, PE, CAE, UMC
