EVENTS
Ten local northeastern Ohio high schools attended the first
annual North Coast Ohio ProStart
®
Day on Feb. 9. More than
300 students, who are studying culinary arts and restaurant
management, had the opportunity to tour three of Cleveland’s
finest hotels including the Ritz Carlton, the Marriott and the
Renaissance. The hotels provided a behind the scenes look at
their guest rooms, banquet facilities and kitchen areas.
Following the tours, the students were served lunch where keynote
speaker, Michelle Bommarito, a well-known culinary aficionado,
shared her story with the students.
Bommarito was a pastry cook at the world renowned Waldorf
Astoria Hotel, a freelance artist for Martha Stewart, had television
guest appearances on Martha Stewart Living, Food Network Cake
Challenges and Sugar Rush. She even has served as a personal chef
to basketball legend Michael Jordan. Bommarito shared the best
advice she learned early on in her career: “Do your best, even when
no one is watching you.”
A special thank you is extended to American Culinary
Federation (ACF) Cleveland and Akron chapters for sponsoring
Bommarito’s appearance.
