Texas Association of Builders
July/August 2015
Lonestar Newsmakers
Tarrant County College South did a lot for
their community this past month, earning
them the title of April's NAHB Student
Chapter of the Month.
The members of the Association of
Construction
Management
Students
(ACMS) assembled and installed the first
ever NRG Street Charge in their district
donated by the NRG Company. In addition,
the organization logged more than 115
volunteer hours for Habitat for Humanity
and Adopt-A-Highway.
"This project demonstrates the innovation
that can be spurred by investment and
involvement with trade schools and programs
that support our industry,” said Phil Crone
Dallas Builders Association Executive Officer.
“These students are the future of our industry,
but initiatives like this enable them to enrich
our communities today."
Highland Homes Customizes
HomeAid Playhouse
Highland Homes, the builder of HomeAid’s
2015 Project Playhouse, pulled out all the
stops with the design of their “Highland Hill
Country Playhouse” that will be a child’s
dream come true. The playhouse captures
the country look and signature appeal of
the Texas hill country. Siding, a metal roof,
a chimney and a front porch invite children
and adults to enter the charm of a tiny
country-style home that could be nestled
among the rolling hills.
Highland Homes partnered with HomeAid
Houston, a Greater Houston BA charity
and one of the nation’s largest providers of
transitional housing for the homeless, the
Houston Astros and the Astros Foundation
to design and build this unique playhouse.
It was on display at several venues before its
final destination at Minute Maid Park. The
drawing to win the playhouse took place
during the Astros game on July, 1. Additional
playhouse venues included Aliana Home &
Garden Tours in March, Cross Creek Ranch
Festival of Tails on April 11
th
, and Towne Lake
Lake-A-Palooza on May 3
rd
.
Members of the Tyler Area Builders
Association enjoyed a great night
of bowling and raised $2,000 for
HOMEPAC at their annual
Bowling
with Builders
fundraiser.
The Texas Association of Builders has been named
the winner of three National Association of Home
Builders Association Excellence Awards. TAB was
voted the best in these categories:
• Best Publication
• Best Council Development Program
• Best Membership Event
The Association Excellence Awards is an annual
NAHB program designed to recognize the
outstanding accomplishments of state and
local HBAs and executive officers in the field of
association management.
Like-sized HBAs compete against each other for the
“best of” educational initiatives, communications
projects, non-dues revenue generation for
programs such as home and garden shows and
parades, community service and other categories.
NAHB also honors individuals for outstanding
state and local HBA staff and leadership for the
examples they set with the Career Achievement
Award program and Small Office award program
as well as honors for outstanding new EOs with
promising careers ahead of them.
