Marine Technician Today: Summer 2013 - page 5

A
fter being forced to put the NMSE trade show on the shelf for
the last few years due to the economy, AMTECH is excited
to announce that it is bringing back the trade show for 2014.
The date of NMSE ’14 is set for January 17 in Ormond Beach, FL,
on the WyoTech campus. As the boating industry reshapes itself
after a few down years, the need for quality service has never been
greater. More and more consumers are expecting quality service
now that new boat and motor sales have dropped off. In order
to keep people in boating, the marine service community needs
to improve the image of service by offering the customer an
exceptional service experience.
With a reduction in discretionary spending available to the boating
industry, it’s become apparent that service will be one of the most
important, if not the most important, component to the marine
industry’s success. This renewed interest in service is what the
industry must concentrate on so the customer continues to have
a great boating experience. It appears that this trend is here to stay.
With this added responsibility being put on the service technician,
knowing what is available to them regarding new parts and equipment
has become extremely important. The NMSE trade show allows the
technician to visit with vendors from all across the industry to see
what’s new in parts equipment, tools, engine diagnostic software,
aftermarket marine parts, and more. The products displayed by each
company’s sales representative are being used by the technician
every day, all available for inspection in one location! It’s not only
a great opportunity to see the latest in technology, but it’s also a
great place to get some face-to-face meetings with the vendor. At
NMSE, the vendors are usually willing to offer price discounts. It’s a
great opportunity to save money on products that most likely will be
purchased anyway. The savings can even offset some of the costs of
the trip. Just about everything you need to complete repairs in the
marine service industry is available at NMSE.
In addition to attending the trade show, most visiting technicians
take the opportunity to attend the all-day technical workshops
sponsored by AMTECH and MCTINA, the association’s education
department. These workshops are held before and after the trade
show. Also available to all visitors are many free seminars offered
by the attending exhibitors of NMSE. These free product seminars
are a great opportunity to get product training at no charge from the
companies that supply these parts and services.
Great networking opportunity
Over the years, AMTECH members have used NMSE as its annual
meeting place to see old friends and colleagues. NMSE is the perfect
place to network with fellow members who have corresponded with
each other on AMTECH’s “Technical Info Exchange” forum, and the
other forums available to members on AMTECH’s website. Be sure to
mark January 17, 2014 on your calendar to attend NMSE ’14. Early
discounts are available now. Visit the AMTECH website for details, or
call the AMTECH office at 770.720.4324 Ext. 1.
