Summer 2016

Q

Forward Magazine

with questions. Once received, we will have

thirty days to submit written comments

to TSA and the AfA Regulatory Compli-

ance Committee looks forward to hearing

from you during that time so that we can

include your input in our formal submis-

sion to the agency.

Lithium batteries have also been on our

agenda as the International Civil Aviation

Organization recently imposed a ban on

the bulk shipment of lithium-ion batter-

ies on passenger flights worldwide. The

rule remains in place until the adequate

packaging is developed to protect such

shipments against battery related thermal

incidents. AfA remains concerned that

governments are not enforcing existing

laws surrounding the manufacture, pack-

ing, and declaration of such shipments

and therefore views the current ban as

unfortunate. We remain involved in the

Lithium Battery Coalition in Washington

and will continue to monitor develop-

ments on behalf of our membership.

In addition to numerous appearances

throughout the country this year includ-

ing events in Los Angeles and Chicago,

our industry outreach continues on June

14th with an event in Boston where we will

examine Logan's new development plan

and its impact on our industry. Please tell

your office to join me as I moderate a panel

of officials from MassPort, airlines, truck-

ing companies and forwarders. We will also

address regulatory changes expected from

Washington and a big crowd is expected so

register today at

www.airforwarders.org.

Finally, AfA's agenda has never been as

active and the need for your support more

important than it is today. You have an

opportunity to get involved through a

place on our Board of Directors in the Fall

when seven Director seats come up for

election. Serving on the Board is one of the

most rewarding experiences in your career,

providing an opportunity to make an

actual impact on the future of our industry.

Please feel free to call me at the office or

stop me at the conference if you are inter-

ested in making a difference.

I look forward to seeing you in Phoenix at

the AfA Annual membership meeting and

AirCargo 2016!

It’s easy to get so wrapped up in

our own day-to-day activities that

we lose sight of what is going on

in the competitive world around

us. Though understandable,

it can have serious adverse

consequences. This is a chance to

gain important insights as you plan

the future of your organization.

The AfA and leading logistics

technology provider, Descartes,

recently performed an in-depth

survey of forwarders and brokers

across the globe to gain insight

into the key strategies, tactics and

operational metrics that matter

most. The results of this benchmark

study also address operational

performance challenges and

understanding where technology

is making an impact. Join this

webinar as we share results and

findings that can help you to better

shape your logistics strategies and

operations to improve performance.
