What led you to Human Resources as a profession?
My first exposure to Human Resources was during an HR Assistant role which
involved screening resumes, coordinating interviews and pulling together
NEO materials. The more I learned about the different roles and levels, the
more I found myself setting my career goals around advancing as a Human
Resources professional.
In your opinion, what is the future of HR?
Human Resources is the one department that touches every single employee
in an organization. HR has become a true strategic business partner and brings
tremendously valuable strategies that impact the bottom line. For the future, it’s
extremely important for Human Resources professionals to continue developing
themselves further in order to understand the success factors impacting their
organization. I believe that HR is becoming, and will be, one of the supporting
pillars for every organization in order to achieve continuous success.
What would you recommend to someone just
starting out in HR?
The potential for career advancements are endless - whether you see yourself as
an HR Generalist, Compensation Analyst, or have career goals to be part of the
management team developing and implementing core business strategies. There
are many “resources” in Human Resources to help you climb that ladder of success.
What do you find is the greatest reward working in HR?
The greatest reward working in HR is knowing you can help balance what
employees desire (opportunities, pay, benefits, etc.) while keeping in mind what
is best for the organization you support.
What role has NCHRA played in your career?
NCHRA has been one of the best resources for continuing my education/
knowledge and career advancement in HR. Whether I visit the website to research
something in particular or register for upcoming seminars/annual conference, I feel
confident that I have NCHRA as my resource for information.
