While the debate carries on in the political
realm and everything from capacities to types
of arms are debated, I do know that it only
takes two shells at a time to play the game of
sporting clays. This year we will again hold
our annual sporting clays shoot at Shane’s
Sporting Clays to kick off conference. It will
be a 100 bird event over 14 stations in woods
and field. If you have been out with us before
you know what to expect and we look forward
to seeing you again this year. If you have never
tried sporting clays or have not been out to
our shoot I want to extend a special invitation
to you. We are seeing a rise in the number of
people trying shooting sports and especially
the clays games that include trap, skeet and
sporting clays.
This is an outdoor event so pay attention to
the weather and dress appropriately. We will
shoot rain or shine and the only thing that will
keep us off the course will be lightning. The
course can be walked but if there is a need
for transportation we can work that out as
well. It is our desire to provide a fun and safe
atmosphere for everyone who participates so
safety rules will be stressed and enforced. You
will need to bring 100 target or game shells in
7.5 or 8 shot and your shotgun to this event.
If you do not own a shotgun there will be a
few available to rent at Shane’s. Shotgun
shells are also available at Shane’s if you
don’t get a chance to drop by a Walmart or
Dick’s Sporting Goods. As mentioned earlier,
a shotgun that will fire two shots is required
so a pump, auto or over and under in 12 or
20 gauge will work. Anything smaller will put
you at a definite disadvantage.
We are looking to our associate members
again this year to provide a meal, drinks and
maybe even a door prize or two. I have spoken
with AmeroChem and they will again be
providing a shotgun we will raffle off. I have
also talked with another vendor and there is a
strong possibility we will get another gun to
be given away at the shoot. It’s looking like it
will be another good event and I hope that you
will make plans to be there.
