          Summer 2013

          Preparing for

          Certification Schools

          and the Examination

ay is upon us. Time flies. NCRWA has had great success in 2013 with

our Certification Schools. With over a dozen schools taught covering

water distribution and wells, wastewater collections, biological and

physical-chemical, we are continuing to add schools to the 2013

calendar. Offering schools locally gives a system the opportunity to

provide their staff with training, but without the added cost of travel.

The new fiscal year is just around the corner, and we welcome the

opportunity to make available our Certification Schools. We are proud

to have the support of our systems and the many talented and skilled

instructors that make our schools successful.

Did you know that the water and wastewater curricula being taught

during the Certification Schools were intended to be review for exam

preparation? Consider this: all water and wastewater schools are less

than 40 hours in length. Most often this is not sufficient time to learn

a subject thoroughly enough to be a skillful operator at the equivalent

certification level or learn the required topics that may appear on the

State examinations. While we provide training materials including the

Needs to Know and copies of the presentations, it is a necessity for

the student to obtain the reference books and even consider additional

research. What makes these subjects challenging is the variety of topics

that are being covered and the fact that many of the topics are foreign

to some water and wastewater systems. If the treatment or system

technology exists in the State of North Carolina, no matter how obsolete

or outdated, safe bet it will appear in the curricula. If considering taking

a Certification School, visit our website (

          ) to learn

what books and materials are required for that particular certification.

Our Training Division staff are willing to assist with class and exam

          preparation, as well.

What is the most important take away for good school preparation?

Study, Study, Study and Study some more. No matter how confident

the student is in what they have heard or learned in a class, studying is

          a requisite.

Please visit our website to find a listing of our upcoming schools. If you

are in need of a certification school that you do not see listed, we will

be happy to schedule one for you.
