Tarheel Pipeline: Summer 2013 - page 22

I
t always seems a little like a church homecoming at the Wednesday
night awards banquet as you get to see lots of your NCRWA family
members. I love seeing all the familiar faces (even though I can’t call
everyone by name) we still love you all. My only regret at conference is
that I never have enough time to visit and socialize with folks.
This year, we were fortunate to have the Secretary of NCDENR, John
E. Skvarla, III, address our attendees, giving us his background, as well
as insight of the current state of NCDENR and where it’s heading under
his direction. The Secretary seems passionate about his new role and
is ambitious about making necessary changes. We look forward to
working with Secretary Skvarla, and are most appreciative of the time
he spent with us.
As always, the food was great. The ventriloquist was quite good, and
when he brought Mr. Nathaniel “Macon” Robertson and “our own”
Becky Turner on stage, the comedic act took flight and the fun factor
was bumped up numerous notches. Thanks again to QS1 and Southland
Electrical for making the night possible.
It was also great to honor the awards recipients. As always we had some
great nominations and great recipients. NCRWA continues to encourage
water/wastewater systems, Associate members and board members to
make nominations for the 2014 Awards Banquet. It can never be too
early. Another special thanks to all our faithful attendees and our loyal
Associate member for continuing to support our conference and other
NCRWA events and for helping make our conference the success it is.
You all are the CONFERENCE.
Thanks again!
