Summer 2013
from the executive director

OUR MISSION STATEMENT
To provide our water and wastewater membership with
the highest quality support services possible.
ust this week (July 8, 2013), the
Rural Water Staff were finally able to
close the books on the 36th Annual
NCRWA Conference and Exhibition.
As shown later in this edition of The
Tarheel Pipeline, the Conference was
an outstanding event once again, and
everyone attending had a great time
learning and networking. As we turn
our efforts to the Inaugural Leadership
Summit that will be held at the historic
Grove Park Inn in Asheville in late-August, I would like take the
opportunity to express our appreciation to several groups and
individuals that truly made this year’s Conference a success.
First and foremost, we owe a tremendous thank-you to everyone
that helped make the event a success. It takes every attendee,
vendor, sponsor, staff member, and everyone involved in the
planning of the event to make the Rural Water Conference a
success each year. We greatly appreciate everyone’s continued
support and look forward to seeing you all next year.
Next, we would like to express our appreciation to the Secretary
of NCDENR, Mr. John E. Skvarla, III, for visiting our Conference
on Wednesday evening. Mr. Skvarla plays a key role in our
industry, and we considered it a great honor to have him with us.
During his address, he discussed his vision for the future of our
industry and ways that he intended to improve the service offered
by NCDENR. NCRWA looks forward to continuing our work
with him in Raleigh, and appreciate his time in visiting our show.
Finally, I would like to express my personal appreciation to
Mr. Macon Robertson of Warren County Public Utilities. Mr.
Robertson served as President of NCRWA for the past two years
and truly deserves recognition for his unwavering character and
leadership. During his progression towards and service during
his tenure as President, we have faced several burdensome
issues affecting our industry and have made some very difficult
decisions affecting NCRWA’s future. Though it all, President
Robertson stayed focused on the Vision and Mission of NCRWA
and ensured that he unremittingly lead the Board by example in
every situation. President Robertson and his wife Vonnete have
been a source of inspiration at Rural Water and will be greatly
cherished by many for years to come.
While the people to whom we owe our gratitude here at Rural
Water could continue for pages, I will conclude with one simple
statement. Thank you all for the impact that you have on society
every day. Our families and communities depend on you. If
NCRWA can be of assistance, please contact us anytime.
