from the executive director
Success.
Type those seven letters into Google
and you will get definitions such
as “favorable or desired outcome”
(Merriam-Webster.com) or “the
accomplishment of one’s goals”
(Dictionary.com). Interestingly, a
search for quotes on success will
yield an A-List of past leaders and well-known people including
NFL Coach Vince Lombardi, who reminded us that “the only
place success comes before work is in the dictionary.” I could not
agree more as each “successful” endeavor and every goal reached
here at the North Carolina Rural Water Association (NCRWA) has
followed a tremendous effort.
So, where does success happen? Or put another way, what
makes NCRWA successful? The answer is simple: our success is
because of the people that make up NCRWA. This begins with
YOU, our members. Each day when you go to work, you make
us successful as a team and as an industry. Water and wastewater
operators, customer service professionals, directors, managers,
elected members of boards and councils, vendors, and contractors
all combine as the key to our success. Without you all, there are
no attendees to our training events, instructors for our courses,
sponsors for our Conferences, or supporters of our legislative
efforts, and without you all, there is no NCRWA. It takes every
single person working daily to create a successful industry and
successful NCRWA.
The 2014 NCRWAAnnual Conference in Greensboro was a huge
success, and the Board of Directors and Staff of NCRWA would
like to express our appreciation to you all for supporting our event
this year. Attendees and exhibitors alike left the Conference with
renewed relationships with peers and an increased knowledge of
current trends in our industry.
Before turning my efforts completely away from the Conference,
I would like to express my appreciation to several specific people.
First, I would like to acknowledge two retirements from theNCRWA
Board of Directors. Mr. Gregg Stabler of Davidson Water, Inc. and
Mr. John Gregory of Pasquotank County Water both retired from
our Board this year after serving many years in our leadership. Mr.
Stabler was the President of NCRWA when I became Executive
Director and will always hold a certain reverence to me as we
spent many hours discussing issues affecting our Association. Mr.
John Gregory will be held in the highest esteem as well for many
