The Silver Lining
of ICD-10
L
earning, preparing, and changing
to the new ICD-10 code set will
undoubtedly be a lot of work
for a lot of people, but it will be
worth it! Once the hard work is done, and the
ICD-10 code set and providers have made it
through the storm, we can expect to see long
lasting and far-reaching benefits across the
healthcare community including providers,
payers, policy setters, researchers, IT vendors,
and most importantly patients.
As the technology sector continues to
innovate and spread through more aspects
of society, it has to be noted that generating,
collecting, and analyzing meaningful data has
become a vital aspect of technology use. The
amazing increase in codes available to the
healthcare community with ICD-10 will allow
our industry to leverage data analytics and
improve nearly every aspect of the healthcare
delivery system. We will be able to evaluate all
of our programs more easily and make the
adaptations our industry needs to create and
maintain a more effective system that, at the
end of the day, will result in improvements in
patient care.
