eaching for knowledge. A wonderful trait
indeed. And one could successfully argue
an imperative for those dedicated to any
profession, let alone excellence.
Feeling acrostic, anyone? An acrostic poem is
one where certain letters, usually the first of each
line, spell a word. The word from the snippet of my
favorite poem above? Rose. My middle name.
Written by my grandfather as a gift for high school
graduation, the poem, “I, Prometheus” actually begins
with the letter D – Dare I soar up to Olympian heights
– and the theme, as this purloined center section
reflects, is about lifelong learning, pushing oneself,
the pursuit of knowledge as a defining personal
responsibility… with many more lines to ponder that
noble ideal (my full name at the time this personal
treasure was penned - Danika Rose Oswald.)
But enough about me…
Do you dare?
Excellence requires some level of daring. Daring to
learn. To challenge. To change. To imagine what
is next. To apply our knowledge and skills and
passion to make a difference. To have an impact.
Do you dare?
Excellence is not a passive endeavor. We must
reach for it.
And reach we do. It has been said that associations
were the first social networks. Groups of people
who come together because of a community of
interest. Our community banded together with a
shared vision that exceptional HR was the driving
force within thriving organizations. And that through
learning and sharing our collective experience, we
could not only achieve that vision, we could share
it as a shining example. We have been serving that
mission for more than 50 years. With our focus on
learning. Together.
The largest gathering of our dynamic HR community
is soon upon us – HR West. Bringing together
thought leaders and subject matter experts in four
keynotes and more than 70 concurrent sessions as
diverse as our amazing profession and our almost
4,000 members. Every industry. Every company size.
Every discipline. Every reason to take a moment and
reach. Reach for knowledge. And then do what you
do best – apply it. Create a thriving community of
success within your organization.
We will see you at HR West. I dare ya…

“Reaching for knowledge, a wonderful trait,
On this plane of life shall never abate.
Soon I shall see how successful my flight,
Ere long I shall shine, my mind is reconciled!”
