By Crafting a Strong Culture,
You Protect the Future of Your Business
Investing in your staff today ensures the long-term success of your operation
Often when we approach the best way to run our businesses,
we forget the key ingredient: the people upon whom we rely
for success: the staff. How successful one is in treating their
people is directly related to the brand’s guest popularity. Simply
put: guests spend their hard-earned dollars in establishments
they like, which means interacting with positive, happy team
members. Developing your brand into one seen by guests as
stable and profitable will keep bringing them back as well as
capitalize on the best marketing tool available: word-of-mouth.
By creating a stable and welcoming environment, your business
will profit. The best way to do this is to develop a successful
culture with your team. How you treat your staff will be reflected
to your guests and will help drive the future of your concept.
In an industry that is often reactive, it’s extremely important
to take a proactive approach when making the workplace safer
for employees. This shows guests and employees that the
restaurant operator understands that the employees’ needs are
placed first. This can result in both operational and cost benefits
for your foodservice business. Many companies overlook the
importance of having a strategic workplace safety program in
place to protect their employees. When successfully crafted,
these programs focus on preventative measures as the means to
reduce injury frequency and severity.
With this in mind, the Ohio Restaurant Association (ORA)
welcomes you to this edition of the safety-themed issue of à
la Carte. Within these pages, you will discover key resources,
including articles about food safety, health and safety and
workers’ compensation, which are critical to your business’
long-term success.
These articles aim to give you practical knowledge you can
implement to help strengthen your business and potentially
increase your revenue. Additionally, more detailed information
is featured through the “Health & Safety” section of the ORA’s
website:
This edition of à la Carte is worth holding onto as a valuable
resource throughout the year. The insights provided within these
pages will likely be very beneficial to you.
The ORA thanks our Strategic Partners — CareWorks Consultants
Inc., CareWorks, RiskControl360° and ZeroChaos – as well
as The National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health
(NIOSH), the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC),
UnitedHealthcare and Kastner Westman & Wilkins (KW&W) for
their continued investment in our members. These companies

for our on-going health and safety sessions. If implemented
correctly, these best practices will keep your workplace safe
and stress-free, which helps restaurant operators save time and
money - our main goal!
