Funding Your Infrastructure Needs
This session will review the status of the
various grant and loan programs that have
been important to rural water and sewer
systems in the past, and the apparent
current status of these federal and state
programs. It will also cover other methods
of funding infrastructure that your system

Avoiding Service Interruptions for
the Water/Wastewater Industries
Assisting utilities in avoiding service
interruptions. No service interruptions
through the use of hot taps, line stops and
in-line valve insertions. Many systems
must provide continuous non-interrupted
supply of water to their customers
(hospitals, industry, etc.). Using line stops
coupled with valve insertions offer that type
of service allowing for the convenience of
continuous service.

Communication Gap
and the Customer
The water purveyor is presumed to be the
expert on cross connection control. It is the
water purveyor’s responsibility to educate
the customer about cross connection
control and their responsibilities. Working
with customers on their level is important.
This presentation will discuss various ways
to defeat the communication gap between
the water purveyor and their customers.

Essentials of
Practical pH Measurement
The class focuses on the essentials of
practical pH measurement. pH is one of
the most common and routine types of
laboratory analysis, but in order to achieve
good precision and accuracy, proper
technique using well-functioning equipment
must be followed. Each component of the
pH system will be discussed including
basic theory, electrodes, calibration,
care and maintenance, temperature, and
troubleshooting.

Technology Behind Locating and
Mapping Underground Utilities
This technical session will be an overview
of all locators and all the different locating
system designs. There will be an emphasis
on Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and
other traditional locating technology. It will
feature discussion on proper tracer wire
system installation and newer ways of
creating locatable systems such as RFID
markers and above ground marking posts.
The overall presentation will be directed at
how GIS technology works in the "Utility
World".
